Benison {meaning: blessing}

The earliest records of the practice of “counting blessings” can be traced back to the 11th and 12th centuries, when, it is believed, people carried small stones or pebbles in their pockets with which to count prayers. So, the old saying “remember to count your blessings” was said quite literally. These ornamental strands have also been called: Mala Beads, Welcome Beads or Love Beads, and have been used across many cultures and religions as a way to physically count one’s devotionals, intentions, prayers and blessings.
